By far the best way to see the sights at Jekyll Island is on a bicycle. There are 20 miles of bike paths on Jekyll Island that go through a wide range of environments including forests, wetlands, and beaches. Bicycles can be rented at either the campground or near the mini-golf and playground. Ocean views- Take path on the right toward the Convention Center or head left down the path to the Beachview Club. 2 miles along beach. 2. Golf Course Views- Take path behind the bike rental parking, by Oleander course. Take right at the Jekyll Island His¬tory Center and Museum on Stable Rd. to Old Plantation Rd. Go right on Capt. Wylly Rd., winding by Pine Lakes and Indian Mound Courses. Return on beachside path. 3.5 miles. 3. Historic District- Take path on right, turn right by shopping center, go behind gas station, take path through maritime forest. Once in Historic District, continue straight toward Jekyll Island club on road ahead. Pass behind hotel, by Faith Chapel and Villa Marianna. Continue down Old Plantation Rd. Go right on path by Capt. Wylly Rd and return on beachside path. 4.6 miles. 4. North Loop - Take left on path from bike rentals, by the beachside path, past Jekyll Inn, Villas by the Sea and the Campground. Continue on path canopied by live oaks. Past airport, take left on Old Plantation Rd. to path on Capt. Wylly Rd. & return by beachside path. 8.5 miles. To extend this ride, take the path to your right by the gate past Villas by the Sea to meander through the Clam Creek area. 5. South Loop- Take path south of the Convention Center. Continue past South Dunes Picnic Area. View the Soccer Center and see “Glory” Beach, where the movie was filmed. Pass St. Andrews Picnic Area and ride on Riverview Dr. near Summer Waves take path to right through the maritime forest and return on path by Greeting Station. 6.2 miles. Biking Rules 1. Use designated bike paths where available 2. Ride with traffic flow on the far right side in a single file if you are on a road 3. Obey all traffic rules 4. No motorized vehicles are allowed on the bike paths 5. You must wear a helmet if you under 16 years of age 6. No rental bikes are allowed on the beach
